Buying gifts online - Important criteria for Christmas shoppers

Berlin, 23 November 2009

Every second consumer plans to do their Christmas shopping online this year. The latest w3b internet market survey uses conclusive facts and figures to underline a trend which has grown consistently in the past few years. The profile of the classic online shopper has become a business. LBi Iven & Hillmann provides consulting for its customers to help them optimize their relationship with their shoppers during the most important season for the retail branch and to utilize this growing potential for their Christmas trade.

These are the typical online Christmas shoppers: those who spend the most on Christmas gifts are very aware of trends and buy new products more readily than other consumers in their direct environment. The typical online shopper also likes to assume the role of a shopping advisor and is consulted by friends, colleagues and family concerning new developments and innovations. A certain price sensitivity can be seen in shoppers who are within in the age group 25 – 35 but this can also extend up to the age of 50.

Virtual Christmas shopping is increasing in popularity. During the last seven years the internet has been used increasingly to buy gifts. A clear upturn can be seen even in comparison with the previous year. At the end of 2008, 47% planned to do their Christmas shopping online and this year it has increased to 52% - more than half of all users. This is an increase of almost 10 percent.

“Working together with our clients we ensure that shoppers who order online at Christmas time have a long-term relationship with the brand” explained Ron Hillmann, Managing Director of LBi Iven & Hillmann. “Satisfied Christmas shoppers whose expectations regarding quality, delivery and service are fulfilled will be retained as long-term customers even after the festive season.”

Watch out for these shops

More transparency in the interaction between SEM and Affiliate Marketing

Berlin, 23 October 2009

The brand is the most important link between businesses and customers. It builds confidence and gives a clear value proposition. Abuse can cause damage and devalue the brand. With the monitoring module of the SISTRIX Toolbox, LBi Iven & Hillmann and its clients can now achieve maximum clarity about any uses and abuses of their brand - around the clock, seven days a week. This allows for early detection, and immediate action.

Especially the combination of LBi Iven & Hillmann´s online specialization, search engine marketing and affiliate marketing, are highly likely risk of trademark infringements. While it is possible to protect brand trademarks and their respective keywords on Google, there are some common techniques for publishers to get around these methods. The trademark monitoring is an extension of the successful SISTRIX Toolbox. It is a cost effective solution developed to document these violations accurately with Google Adwords.

"A continuous monitoring of important figures and reporting data is essential, especially for larger sites, in order to make the right decisions" says Johannes Beus, SISTRIX-founder, recalling from his long experience as a publisher and developer of applications for search engine optimization and marketing.

Jörg Ullmann, Key Account Director and SEM / SEO expert at LBi Iven & Hillmann, enthuses: "By using the new SISTRIX Toolbox, we can monitor the various keywords for our customers 24 hours a day. Automated scanning occurs in all 16 German states and 8 metropolitan areas several times per day and will display any illegal bidding on the respective keywords. Extensive documentation then allows us to take action against these violations. Therefore maintaining and strengthening our clients' brands online.”

Iven & Hillmann presents the LBi Dashboard: Affiliate Marketing as part of the Online Marketing Mix

Berlin, 10. September 2009

Online Marketing as an advertising channel is growing into an increasingly complex and diverse activity. There are infinite numbers of data from a growing number of sources. The results from the affiliate marketing channel are only a small fraction of the total mass of data. With this in mind, it is increasingly important for advertisers to view their data as no longer just isolated, but to take advantage of all available information as part of the overall marketing mix. Iven & Hillmann present the LBi Dashboard, the optimal solution for companies who see themselves confronted with the challenge of a complex dataset to be evaluated.

Transparent, Comparable, Results

Within all communication activities of a company, and here even more specifically considered within the online communication mix, affiliate marketing, makes up only a small module in conjunction with many different components. A simple analysis of data purely from affiliate marketing is no longer strong enough and does not allow coherent and concrete recommendations for action. The target of maximizing the ROI on advertising investments is to aggregate the results of all actions and to assess comprehensively the data. Only companies that can cross-analyze their data to draw the right conclusions can ensure a strategic long-term success in the future. Therefore it is important that every employee has the relevant data clearly made available at a glance. Providing one-stop access for all involved with a transparent view of data and trends is the prerequisite for correct decisions.

The LBi Dashboard provides in detail:

  • Aggregate overview of the data of different advertising channels such as affiliate marketing, search engine marketing, display advertising and much more.
  • Clear presentation of developments and trends in data over time and clear summaries of the results
  • Implementation of third-party data (Google, zanox, affilinet, ...)
  • Implementation of external market data to compare (eg, Nielsen, Comscore, ...)
  • Assessment of internal data in relation to the market and competitors
  • Easy data import methods such as APIs and web services - as well as xls / csv
  • Easy to understand and simple interface

"We provide our customers with the LBi Dashboard for a quick and easy overview of the results of all online advertising campaigns combined with relevant market data," states Arend Lars Iven, CEO of LBi Iven & Hillmann. "A completely transparent overview of all data and market trends allows for a precise control of all channels. With this tool, we provide our customers and us a real added value. "

SEM/SEO and Affiliate Marketing: New ways in for Internet Marketing Professionals

Berlin, 07. September 2009

Creative, specialist and forward thinking: well respected Berlin agency offers young new talent the opportunity to start a career in online marketing. Founded by Arend Lars Iven (33) and Ron Hillmann (41), the Iven & Hillmann agency recently joined global full-service digital communications group LBi, providing specialist services and expertise in Search Engine Marketing and Affiliate Marketing. The agency is responsible for online marketing services on behalf of multiple large-scale clients, involving the successful communication of brand USPs and fulfilling client's sales targets. Subsequently, the Talent School training programme offers the successful candidate an ideal platform to develop commercial experience and expertise in Marketing Communications.

„We offer multiple promising opportunities to young career starters.“

The trainee programme provides a general marketing overview and the opportunity to gain varied experience for later specialisation. Looking beyond traditional advertising production techniques and booking models, the programme looks at the whole media planning process, naturally including the overlap with online channels and techniques. “I am finding it particularly interesting to learn and apply strategic marketing theory through Iven & Hillmann's programms in this industry, and I expect this focus to become even stronger through the group’s global operations”.

Starting with just two staff in 2004 in Hackesmarkt, today the agency employs around 30 employees. Well known brands such as TUI, Jamba, ImmobilienScout24, Congstar and SevenOne Intermedia entrust their online campaigns to the team at the Berlin agency. “We’re continuing to grow”, says Ron Hillmann, founder and MD at the agency, “and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find good people in this business. Therefore we have made the decision to develop the talent ourselves”.

„We take care of our staff with a long-term view”, explains Arend Lars Iven. “To this end the trainee programme is covered by our company pension plan.”

More rules to ensure quality in affiliate marketing

Berlin, 03. August 2009

In order to manage an affiliate marketing program successfully expert knowledge and experience are essential. But it is also very important to master SEO, SEM, media planning and to have general webmaster skills. Ron Hillmann gives tips on how advertisers can sustainably improve the quality of affiliate marketing with a healthy dose of scepticism and explains the rules by which partnerships can be evaluated and made even more successful.

The origin of the traffic = The quality of the traffic: All affiliate partnerships should be evaluated from the very beginning to see whether the advertising media provided in the network really are linked to the website stated in the application and whether the visitors acquired actually come from these advertising sites. It is not always possible for affiliate networkers to check where and how the affiliates’ banners are really linked. It is possible, for example, that an affiliate who is registered with a particular website by an affiliate marketing provider does not incorporate the links and banners provided into the released website but locates them in another website. The merchants do not only run in this case the risk of being present in an undesired environment but also lose any control over the origin of their visitors and traffic.

Secure in several affiliate networks: Merchants who decide to be active in several affiliate networks should install an intelligent and targetted control of the tracking code which prevents an order being compiled in several affiliate networks which could lead to multiple commission payments. Without this control some affiliates could exploit this loophole to make multiple charges by simply using cookies from several affiliate networks.

Check orders and leads regularly: Orders and leads from affiliate marketing should be regularly checked and compared on a day-to-day basis. In this way irregularities can be discovered and analysed quickly. It is especially important to find out whether the shopping basket and order numbers correspond to the merchandise management. In particular, very successful partnerships should be checked carefully. In the case of leads it is necessary to find out if the addresses generated really exist. Finally, orders which were cancelled or returned by the customer should be rejected, if possible with an explanation, via the affiliate network. This prevents creative affiliates from exploiting this loophole and generating bogus orders in order to charge commission.

How to use postview marketing properly: A group of affiliates is currently concentrating on the topic of postview marketing. This involves locating merchants’ advertising in portals and websites with a wider reach on a success basis which is basically of interest for many merchants. By this means also branding effects can identified and optimally evaluated. However, the operator must ensure that the installation of the advertising media is carried out transparently and that sufficient communication ensues and that the banners can actually be seen by visitors. Black sheep amongst affiliates are known to place advertising media in non-visible areas or use cookies without an advertising media being shown. This leads to affiliates getting commission for sales which did not result from the affiliates active advertising. The affiliate networks have been trying for some time to deal with this problem with a Code of Conduct.

Independent special agencies: Managing an affiliate program on a day-to-day basis is often very involved and time-consuming. At least one member of staff should at all times be responsible for the coordination of this channel. Companies which do not have the necessary resources should decide to cooperate with a specialised agency for performance and affiliate marketing. These have specialists who are experienced in the installation and development of affiliate programs and have special tools at their disposal which detect fraudulent affiliates. They often keep a blacklist which shows suspicious affiliates and enables the affiliate manager to prevent these partners from cooperating with customers. This is a constant guarantee that all of the usual methods of tracking and tracking abuse are dealt with regularly.

Start-Up Stories: Know the market and grow organically

Berlin, 30. March 2009

They are a fairly unusual duo. One is a typical networker from the agency scene who loves the internet and its latest trends. The other is a classical, well-structured free-thinker with a background in finance and business who has turned his hobby (surprise, surprise – also the internet) into his bread and butter. Ron Hillmann (41) and Arend Lars Iven (33) are the movers and shakers behind one of Germany’s most successful online marketing agencies – Iven & Hillmann. But what does an online marketing agency do exactly? Well, they help well-known companies to increase their sales. Iven & Hillmann are informed how much they can spend on advertising to acquire customers from other websites and are given a target number of goods to be sold in a certain period. Their main aim is to prevent randomness. That’s why they choose keywords very carefully and aim for a relatively conservative conversion rate of approx 1%. It could be said that they are an online sales team. Their satisfied clients include Jamba, Congstar, ImmobilienScout24 and Xing. But why don’t these companies simply do this for themselves? “Today many large companies have a big budget for online marketing and expect a corresponding efficiency”, says Arend Lars Iven. “But an in-house solution doesn’t have enough depth of know-how. They don’t have the exchange of knowledge and skills of a specialist agency whose teams have the experience of various clients from differing branches. This is our speciality – we can simply react more quickly to new situations.”

In 2001, when Iven and Hillmann first became involved in online marketing, they were to a large extent pioneers. Since then Google has expanded enormously and budgets for online marketing have grown accordingly. Awareness of the virtual information market has intensified. Specialist agencies like Iven & Hillmann offer their specific know-how to companies who haven’t stood out enough in the data maelstrom of the internet, who want to promote their brands or enter new markets. Online marketing has in general four main central elements: affiliate marketing (see our earlier marketing articles), display advertising (banners etc.) e-mail marketing (mails to target groups) and search engine marketing (includes search engine optimisation and search engine advertising). “It’s always important to set yourself clear targets when using these elements. Display advertising is costly and best suited to promoting brand-awareness” points out Arend Lars Iven. He and Hillmann concentrate above all on the most efficient online channels, affiliate and search engine marketing. “We have consciously decided to specialise in quality instead of quantity” continues Iven. “It’s possible to do a lot right, but also a lot wrong, in online marketing – it depends mostly on the attention to detail”.

Well, how did the story of our duo begin? Relatively typically. After Arend Lars Iven’s time with a bank from 1994 to 1996, he started straight away to design websites. He studied economics in Münster, started his first business projects and began to become interested in search engine optimisation. Although he had little experience in this area he quickly learned everything through trial and error, mainly using the Fireball search engine and its instructions regarding megatags. This enabled him to generate a large amount of traffic for his websites (amounting in 2002 to no less than 20 million page impressions). This attracted the attention of Ron Hillmann, a well-known face on the scene, who was already working for ImmobilienScout 24. Hillman’s background is also closely related to the web. After studying economics and media consulting at the Technische Universität Berlin he was employed, amongst others, by the advertising agency Scholz & Friends, Idealo.de and Zanox. Really good timing: three days after Iven’s final examination he was called by Hillmann who wanted to acquire his skills for ImmobilienScout 24 in order to establish the company’s online marketing. An expansion of affiliate marketing, search engine optimisation and marketing was soon to follow. Iven, being keen to learn all about the new economy, said yes and they met a few days later at the now defunct Online Marketing Düsseldorf fair (OMD). Things then began to move quickly. After two months on holiday, Iven came on a Thursday to sign a contract with ImmobilienScout24, on Friday he found a flat in Berlin, had a leaving party on Saturday, moved house on Sunday and began work in his new job on Monday. Within 18 months he had established himself in online marketing at ImmobilienScout24 which remains today a sizeable department of the company. Yet the two internet fans wanted more. In May 2004 they became self-employed and left ImmobilienScout24. They left on good terms and are still in contact with the company. Their first commission was from Jamba and they were also employed by ImmobilienScout24 as consultants. When choosing the name of their new company they turned their backs on the jokey names which were typical in the branch. They wanted to demonstrate that they were a serious company and that they were prepared to put their names to their work. And so they arrived at “Iven & Hillmann” with the business-like ampersand – as normally only seen in legal firms or banks. After a year the company had grown to employ seven members of staff and earnings before interest and taxes of just over 3,000 Euros. “We didn’t want to get rich overnight, we wanted to express ourselves.” says Iven. “I like to create structures and we simply decided to turn our hobby into our job. We found our niche and made it our own through our professionalism“.

The two of them have financed everything themselves. There is not a cent of external capital in Iven & Hillmann – the company has grown organically in order to assure the quality of their work. “After a year business was already beginning to do well, after two years it was excellent” reveals Ron Hillmann with a certain amount of pride. “In the boom year of 2005 a lot of companies discovered online marketing for themselves. Completely new markets and channels arose which needed to be served.” Business flourished. And still they wanted more. In December 2007 they sold their company. They had never planned to sell – but the market had become global. National pitches turned into European pitches. The competition for US accounts took place in New York and the European pitches took place in London. An enormous expansion would have been necessary, which would have taken far too long to arrive at organically while there already existed other large networks. “We tried to expand, to take the next step” says Iven. “To be part of this league through organic growth would have taken too long”. Therefore, they started to look for a way out and found LBI International. Iven und Hillmann sold their company to the holding and became part of the network that brings together the various skills of many agencies and enables a synergy of regions and content. The price? That’s confidential. They have promised to remain silent. Yet it was one of Germany’s best agency deals on an earn out basis. Still today Iven & Hillmann remains a genuine agency: a computer sweat shop where eighteen-year-old nerds with basin haircuts and long finger nails sit tapping away at their keyboards? No way! The staff, who are mainly female, work in a busy atmosphere. The two manager’s offices are an example of well-ordered chaos. There are three monitors on the desk and two bikes in the office. Guests are received politely and with friendliness. The rooms are flooded with light. In the bathroom there are toothbrushes and aftershave ready in case a project is approaching deadline. The work is usually done in teams. One team per client. And rather fewer clients than staff – it’s necessary to grow organically with the number of clients. An international team of native-speakers looks after clients from around the globe. “It’s absolutely essential to know about the special conditions in a market, if you want to, e.g. enter the market in Saudi Arabia”, states Hillmann. Wearing a bike helmet, he looks for his iPhone while shredding through his Blackberry at the same time. “Right, I’m going to buy a house” he says and, buoyed up by four Red Bulls, leaves the office. Iven remains calm and smiles gently. It really appears that the pair complement each other excellently. One creative, imaginative and communicative. The other well-structured, thoughtful and reserved. Both are astute and in love with the internet. Iven & Hillmann have almost never had to overcome serious hurdles. There is a danger that agencies suffer losses when a client becomes insolvent as costs arise in advance of payment. The biggest problem, however, is finding good members of staff, who fit in with the company’s philosophy. The working atmosphere is the most important thing in an agency. And what does the future hold? In five years the two want to make Iven & Hillmann even more international and actively promote their start-up investments such as BVP Berlin Venture Partners GmbH as active co-investors. Their tip for young entrepreneurs who also want to achieve such success is to form good start-up teams and cover all the most important areas (technology, product, marketing, sales). You should complement not only each other’s skills but also each other’s experience. But bear in mind: the fewer founders the better. Maybe two complementary free-thinkers are enough – as in the case of Iven & Hillmann.

Mobile community qeep entrusts Berlin agency with mobile marketing

Berlin, 19. January 2009

qeep, globally successful mobile community, appoints Berlin agency Iven & Hillmann to provide search marketing services, after two years of prosperous growth. With more than 5.000 registrations per day, there are now more than 900.000 users worldwide. Predominantly used by adolescents from a total of 192 countries, the platform is used to keep in touch with friends or to meet new people. In collaboration with the Berlin agency for digital marketing, qeep has a target of 25 to 30 percent stable monthly growth.

Mobile internet access is becoming more and more attractive, as the advancement of technological infrastructure as well as the development of mobile end devices progress. User friendly tariff structures are being increasingly offered by mobile phone providers. A sample survey by TNS Infratest indicates that currently approximately eleven percent of all mobile phone users also use mobile internet. Another eight percent claim an interest in internet access via mobile indicating foreseeable growth.

qeep-founder Cornelius Rost states: „Social communities are already an integral part of young people’s everyday lives and they are now set to conquer mobile.” He explains: “The Agency Iven & Hillmann offers a long experience in digital marketing of social networks. Our joint objective is to achieve an increasing level of popularity and a large expansion of the community.”

Our young audience, people from 17 to 22 years, are especially open minded with regards to mobile services such as qeep. Rost says: “Teenagers and adolescents are often out and about and in the meantime want to keep in touch with their friends. Qeep enables users to generate virtual photo albums, to play online games against other members or to send “sound attacks” directly to their friend’s mobile. It’s fun and our users can – no matter where they are or what time it is – exchange their thoughts with their friends.”

The social network qeep is internationally distributed. Since the English version’s launch in spring 2008, qeep has attracted significant interest, especially in the UK, South Africa, India, Indonesia and the US. Existing German members are therefore currently finding it much easier to socialise with people from other countries and to make new friends all over the world.

Berlin Agency extends its Business-Network-Account XING to include two further countries

Berlin, 18. November 2008

Xing, the market leader in Europe for Business Networking, has entrusted the Berlin SEM and Affiliate Agency LBi Iven & Hillmann with its search engine marketing for over two years. Founded in Germany, the popular business network has successfully extended its operations internationally in the last five years and now connects over 6 million business and professional people from 190 countries in 16 languages promoting their businesses, professions and careers. In order to ensure made-to-measure networking functions for each country the Iven & Hillmann team works together with native speakers to arrive at an optimum search engine concept: for Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Austria, Turkey, and as of this month the United Arab Emirates.

The foundation of the Iven & Hillmann SEM campaign is MyNetworkValue.com in line with the successful overall marketing campaign of XING AG. Excellent results can be achieved in SEM in the various national markets by establishing a targeted knowledge transfer between the agency and XING and by using integrated multi-channel marketing strategies.

“It is important in large SEM campaigns to understand national differences in culture and mentality and to adapt the concept to take local characteristics into account” stated Ralf Ahamer, Vice President Marketing at XING AG. "Iven & Hillmann, like XING, employ native speakers from the relevant markets. Our cooperation has been outstandingly successful from the very beginning: due to continuous optimisation of all processes we ensure together that XING is optimally positioned in regional search engines. We are already the leading online business network in Turkey and want to extend our position even further in the future using, amongst others, SEM strategies.”

"Our international online marketing experts find it particularly exciting to be involved in establishing the world-wide successful business network XING in their own country“ says Ron Hillmann, founder and Managing Director of Iven & Hillmann. "They know what is important linguistically in their culture and implement this knowledge in online marketing“.

In addition to N24.de which was launched at the beginning of this year, the Berlin Internet Marketing specialists have to date been able to win six major platforms of the SevenOne Intermedia GmbH belonging to the multimedia company ProSiebenSat.1 Group. Whether up to date news videos, company news bulletins or live reports on N24.de, the launch of new series or news of blockbusters, Web-TV offers on ProSieben, new documentary formats or games on kabeleins.de, consumer tips at the video advice portal HAUSGEMACHT.TV or new games in the games portal SevenGames.de and Sat1Spiele.de: from now on it’s easier to find the latest media news from Germany and the world in the internet.

“LBi Iven & Hillmann is a specialist agency which we have chosen to comprehensively support our internet platforms through Keyword Advertising” reported Irene Seitz, Product Management Manager for Multimedia TV Brands. “The proven success of the team during the test phase at the beginning of the year impressed us”. Classical online media are not involved in the cooperation between SevenOne Intermedia and LBi Iven & Hillmann.

“For us as marketing people it’s probably one the most interesting challenges to communicate news and media topics in the internet” enthused Ron Hillmann, Managing Director of Iven & Hillmann. “And our success has already attracted numerous imitators in the branch. We find it exciting to lead the market due to our vision and empathy”.

LBi Iven & Hillmann, the agency for digital performance marketing now provides its clients with mobile search engine optimisation and mobile advert booking in addition to search engine and affiliate marketing. This places the Berlin team at the vanguard of multi-channel performance marketing in Germany.

“We transfer our know-how from the stationary internet to the mobile area. We are the first agency in Germany to offer our clients the ability to operate and follow cross-channel performance marketing” explained Ron Hillmann. “Using an integrated tracking toolbox our clients also enjoy total transparency regarding the development of their complete digital marketing activities. And we offer them tailor-made and even more efficient multi-channel marketing solutions.”

Iven & Hillmann breaks new ground in Performance Marketing

Berlin, 29. July 2008

Mobile surfing is getting more and more popular and attractive: Budgets are increasingly being reallocated to mobile forms of advertising that are already well known from the internet. Not only are Google, Yahoo and Microsoft adapting their online services to the world of mobile content, but also online retailers and advertisers are firmly convinced about the success of this marketing channel. LBI Iven & Hillmann, the global marketing and technology agency, is embracing this trend, offering its German and International clients Mobile Search Optimization and Mobile Marketing services, in addition to the agency’s well established SEM and Affiliate Marketing services. With this step the Berlin agency is a pioneer in Multi-Channel Performance Marketing in Germany.

Although the present number of users is not yet at the same level as the internet, it is obvious that the development in technology, mobile infrastructure, hardware and the shrinking cost of accessing mobile services to the consumer, is making mobile internet more user-friendly and accessible. According to a survey by TNS Infratest, today, approximately eleven percent of mobile phone users in Germany use mobile internet. Another eight percent express their interest in accessing the internet via their mobile phone, suggesting that the community is set to grow further.

Since 2004 Iven & Hillmann manages respected clients such as Jamba, ImmobilienScout24, Versatel and TUI in performance based Internet Marketing. Ron Hillmann, founder and CEO at Iven & Hillmann explains, "We are transferring our know-how in Online Marketing to Mobile Marketing. We are the first agency in Germany to offer our clients the chance to practice and verify Multi-Channel Performance Marketing. By using an all-in-one tracking toolbox, our clients gain perfect transparency over the development of their online marketing activities and advertising investments. We offer them tailor-made and efficient multi-channel marketing solutions."

Iven & Hillmann use supporting technology ‘td Toolbox’, developed by TD Technology, TradeDoubler, a holistic Internet Marketing Management System that enables users to manage, test and report all Online Marketing measures in one system to maximize their effectiveness in real-time. "We are happy, that LBi Iven & Hillmann have decided to use the td Toolbox for their business", states Matthias Stadelmeyer, Head of TD Technology Germany at TradeDoubler. "The extension of Online Marketing Campaigns to mobile hardware makes tracking more challenging. The td Toolbox provides various benefits: mobile campaigns can be observed on a keyword- or placement-level, also it is possible to track activity without using cookies, as required for mobile WAP-Services."

A current Jupiter Research study forecasted more than 1.3 Billion Euro advertising revenue for the year 2012 for Moblie Marketing in the European market alone. That means that in four years around nine percent of the whole online advertising budget will be invested in Mobile. Exciting prospects for the future of performance-based advertising.

Online marketing branch creates jobs - not only in Berlin

Berlin, August 02, 2007

Creative, efficient and looking ahead: an online marketing agency has created jobs in Berlin. In this year alone eight new team members started their career with Iven & Hillmann. The company, named after its founders Arend Lars Iven and Ron Hillmann, specialises in two successful areas – search engine marketing and affiliate marketing in e-commerce. Internet marketing is linked to the distribution aims of large companies giving them the opportunity to promote themselves online

The simplest way to increase sales

Affiliate marketing is simple. If visitors (customers) discover a banner or advertisement online on any website (affiliate) belonging to an online shop (merchant) one simple click leads them directly to this online shop. If they buy something there this is registered using the appropriate technology and the operator of the website receives commission from the online shop. The online shop, in this case a client of Iven & Hillmann, pays a purely success-based commission to the distribution partner and meets potential customers and interested parties on the websites in which they are interested.

Users seeking certain products and services are reached by search engine marketing. Each month there are more than 5 billion search engine enquiries giving a very important sales potential for the whole online trade. The operators of the large search engines provide various possibilities to appeal to customers and give companies the opportunity to pay for text advertising. The “sponsored links” enable advertising to be located so that it reaches target groups.

Well known large companies such as TUIfly.com, Jamba, ImmobilienScout24 and Versatel have entrusted their online marketing with Iven & Hillmann's team in Berlin.

With only two members of staff in 2004 the company based in Hackescher Markt now has more than 20 employees. “We're continuing to grow” says Arend Lars Iven, founder and managing director of the agency. “This Autumn we will have to change premises for the second time, our office has simply become too small and we cannot allow this to restrict our possibilities”. He and his co-partner Ron Hillmann, prominent in Berlin as an opinion-former and expert in web business, have invested in the promising concepts of other trailblazers such as “Hitflip” (www.hitflip.de/), “Linklift” (www.linklift.de/), “Ecato” (www.ecato.com/de/) or “die-fans.de”(www.die-fans.de/) in addition to their own agency. The enable new start-ups and further employment not only in Germany's capital

“This year alone we have employed eight new members of staff” says Hillmann. “We ensure that we offer our team long-term opportunities. This includes a company pension scheme.”

The online marketing Agency, Iven & Hillman, takes on the affiliate marketing for a total of six brands from buch.de internetstores AG. Starting immediately, the Berlin experts agency will position the different online shops’ offers with thousands of homepage operators across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Why TUIfly.com soars with Iven & Hillmann?

"With Iven & Hillmann, we address target groups which are virtually inaccessible through classic marketing," states Stefan Schaub, Director of E-commerce for TUIfly.com. "Iven & Hillman had already developed our affiliate marketing with HLX, and we definitely became one of the most successful contenders due to Zanox and Tradedoubler."

"A new brand in air transportation is seldom and exciting! Therefore, we seek affiliate marketing people who will not only promote increased flight sales, but who also contribute to the brand development with innovative formats - a totally new realm for affiliate marketing," clarifies Ron Hillmann, Co-Founder of Iven & Hillmann GmbH & Co. Why an Extra Affiliate Agency?

Because advertisers are unfamiliar with the young discipline of affiliate marketing. And because a success-based payment model is able to calculate per order. Most companies trust a specialist agency which can address their needs, handle the technical and often-creative provisions processes, find the appropriate affiliate network, and - above all else - support the campaign's success. Iven & Hillmann links online marketing with profit goals. Tools like banner design, ad text, assortments of partner websites, display frequency control, and many more are regularly developed. And, they are utilized until the highest conversion rates of interest to sales are met.
